Africa

Africa is the world’s second largest continent after Asia and is home to over one million species of animals. With almost 12 million square miles of deserts, tropical rain forests, and savannas, Africa is best known for the “Big Five”. The Big Five game animals include the Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Elephant, and Cape Buffalo. Several species are vulnerable or endangered due to hunting and poaching. The endangered animals in Africa include the Pangolin, White Rhino, Black Rhino, Rothschild Giraffe, Okapi, and the Grey Crowned Crane. The Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, and African Forest Elephant are all vulnerable species and must be protected.

Hedgehog

Hedgehog

Hedgehogs are born with short, soft spikes that lengthen and sharpen as they grow up. These spikes help protect hedgehogs from predators by making them too prickly for other animals to grab or eat. Hedgehogs often add to their defenses by chewing up plants that are...

Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus

Hippos’ eyes, noses, and ears are on the top of their head, allowing them to see, breath, and hear while almost completely submerged under water. They’re strong swimmers and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. Hippos aren’t normally very fast,...

Honeybee

Honeybee

There are three different types of honeybees. Most females are workers who forage for food and protect the hive, one queen is the single fertile female of a hive and spawns the next generation, and the male bees, which are called drones, stay in the hive...

Hornbill

Hornbill

Hornbills are known for being very noisy and having a wide range of cackles, calls, and bellows. They’re very social and gather in flocks of up to 100 birds. They typically forage for food in small groups or pairs and preen each other...

Jerboa

Jerboa

Jerboas are small desert dwelling rodents which look sort of like miniature kangaroos. Like kangaroos, they move around by hopping and when they’re chased they can reach speeds of 15 miles (24km) per hour. Jerboas’ tails can be longer than their heads and bodies....

Ladybug

Ladybug

Ladybugs have their vibrant color in order to appear poisonous and deter any predators from eating them. They primarily eat plant eating insects, and one ladybug can eat up to 5,000 insects in its lifetime. This makes them very helpful to farmers and gardeners who...

Leatherback Sea Turtle

Leatherback Sea Turtle

Leatherback sea turtles are the largest turtles on the planet. They get their names because unlike other sea turtles whose shells are hard, the leatherback sea turtle’s shell feels leathery and rubbery. Leatherback sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand and as soon...

Lion

Lion

Lions live in prides of between 3 and 40 individuals where the females do all the hunting and child rearing. Most of the animals they hunt are faster than them, which is why lions typically hunt in groups so that they can work together to catch their prey.  They...

Loggerhead Sea Turtle

Loggerhead Sea Turtle

Loggerhead sea turtles get their names because of their oversized heads which some say resemble tree logs. Loggerhead’s have a much longer migration route between their breeding nests and feeding grounds. Female sea turtles travel over 7,457 miles (12,000km) to...

Milkfish

Milkfish

Milkfish have blue tops, silver sides, and white bellies that shimmer in the water. They don’t have teeth which leaves them only able to eat soft plants and invertebrates. Milkfish spawn in salty water and female milkfish can lay up to 5 million eggs in one...

Letter from Haibu

Welcome to the wide world of me, Haibu! I’m so happy you found your way to my site - it’s always fun meeting new people. In fact, I’ve met a lot of new people in the past couple of years.

My best friend, Kanuux and I met on my crazy adventure in New York. He’s technically a seal but he’s a person in my mind. That might be because I can speak to animals like they’re people.

I met pretty much all the orphans at the Barrington House Orphanage in New York City but grew very close with Scotty, Olli, and Zeek. They’re always up for helping me help the animals but that’s only part of why I love them with my whole heart. They’re funny, courageous, empathetic, and my goodness I just appreciate them so much.

They helped me rescue Wiz, Eron, Bishop, and a bunch of other animals from a trafficking ship so now all of those animals are our friends too!

The connections that I have with my friends, both the animal and human kind, have helped me see the world with fresh eyes. I’ve seen the unique struggles and pain they’ve been through without losing love or hope in their hearts. I know that humans are all capable of love and getting along if we just take the time to listen to each other without judgment.

Everyone has a story, and everyone should feel safe sharing it. My friendships have shown me the potential our world has and that’s what I strive to make happen in my lifetime – animals and humans are meant to thrive together.

I hope we can be friends too and you can help me make this world a better place. If you haven’t checked out the world with all the fun animal content on the home page yet, get on it!
